Danvers 0 - Masco 6

The Danvers Varsity Girls Soccer Team hosted Masconomet Wednesday night for their second match of the season.  Danvers lost 3-1 on Masco's soil 3 weeks ago and the Falcons carried a 7 game unbeaten streak into the game.  However, Masco was riding a 56 game unbeaten streak (regular season) and was ranked Nationally a week ago.  They came into the game with a power rating that puts them as the second best Team in the entire state.  Danvers would have to play their best game of the season to hang with the Chieftans.

Danvers kept it 0-0 early on but Masco dominated possession time and had several good scoring chances in the first 20 minutes.  Danvers goalie, Maddie Dembowski did well to keep her Team in the game, making several huge saves.  She also contested for many 50 / 50 balls and came up big time after time.  But Masco had scored at least 3 goals or more in every game but 1 this year and this one would be no different.  They finally found the back of the Falcons net in the 20th and 27th minute of the first half.

"Even though they were outplaying us and winning by 2, we still felt we could come back with a strong second half.:

Masco seemed to get stronger as the game went on though.  They scored 4 more in the second half on their way to a 57th straight game unbeaten and a convincing 6-0 win over Danvers.

"That was humbling for all of us.  We didn't meet their intensity and when we got down by 3, you could see the negative body language on many of our players.  That Masco Team is fantastic and probably the best in the State, but we should have been able to make more of a game of it.  We did so much better the first time around.  We just didn't compete tonight the way we had hoped.  Now we'll have to regroup and figure things out because we have a very strong Lynnfield Team coming on Saturday."

Dembowski made 14 saves on the night in net.  Juniors Ashley Freitas and Addi McCarty played with extreme effort in the midfield and attackers Georgia Prouty and Claudia Drakos were also mentioned by the Coach as playing hard.  Danvers record moves to 9-2-2 on the season.
